The zoo.

Also while I was gone, while the kids were on their Easter break, they took a trip to the Zoo in Guatemala City. I wasn't sorry that I missed all the hard work of putting up a roof. But I was sorry I missed a trip to the zoo with the kiddos!
Wesler and Denis drive the train.
Maria and Fernanada.
I like giraffes. They are my favorite animal. Sometimes when the kids are looking through the newspaper and magazines to cut out things for school, when they see a giraffe they cut it out and give it to me. They are so cute! My kids AND the giraffes!
Everyone!
Noe.
Antoni, Wesler and Noe. Our super-heroes!

It looks like they all had a really good time. They each had their favorite animal that they were telling me about. They also were excited about the food they got to eat. Any excursion they get to go on is always exciting.

Take care and God bless!

Construction update.

Sorry I have fallen behind on the blog. I (Naomi) went to Canada and the US for a month to speak in some churches and Bible studies as well as visit family and friends. It was a wonderful time for me and I ate a lot of all my favorite foods!

While I was gone, they got the roof poured. This involved getting a lot of guys together in order to make a bunch of cement and get it all poured in one day.
Men from the rehab centre came to help out, as well as our teens.
Those cement bags weigh 100 lbs! Angel, our 14 year old, is doing a pretty good job of handling it!
Felipe, our 13 year old, even got in on the work by shoveling rocks. According to this picture, he is working harder than the men nearby! :)
You can see a little bit on the left that the medium boys also were helping open some of the cement bags.
They had an assembly line going to haul the buckets of mixed cement up onto the roof.
It got finished in the one day and then they started on the stairs leading up to the apartment. There will only be an outside entrance for safety and privacy.
Now they are working on getting the plaster on the walls inside and out. As of now, the outside is done and they are working on getting the inside cleaned up and putting the plaster up there.
These pictures below were taken the beginning of last week. They are now cleaned up inside and the plaster is being applied in all the rooms.
So that is where we are at! Things are coming along very well and the older teens are getting very excited. The sooner it is done, the sooner they can move in. Needless to say, they are very motivated to get it finished. They continue to work on it whenever they don't have any other responsibilities around the house.
We have also been to different yard sales and have begun to buy furnishings for the kitchen, living room, bedrooms, etc.

We are happy with how things are coming. I hope you enjoyed this update. More on the kids later!

Announcement about donations.

A special important announcement about tax deductible giving!

Although gifts given to a qualified organization are recognized as tax deductible by the IRS, you CANNOT deduct contributions to a SPECIFIC INDIVIDUAL.

Because of this regulation, effective May 1, 2011, Christ Chapel is asking that the gifts you send for New Life and Peace Ministries (NLPM) only be noted with the ministry name or abbreviation of NLPM. Please do not write Barbella, Victor, Chici or the name of a child on any check or envelope. We realize that our envelopes currently have "Victor Barbella" on them. We will be getting those changed soon.

Christ Chapel does not have a process in place to account for non-deductible gifts to missionaries. Because of this, it is the church's policy to only receive gifts that qualify as tax deductible. Therefore, after May 1st, gifts for NLPM with individual notations will be returned to you.

For those of you who sponsor a child, we will be receiving a monthly report from Christ Chapel of all donations and will know about the giving for your child in this manner. Also, you can contact us by e-mail for any special requests: chicibarbella@conexion.com.gt. Remember, Christ Chapel can no longer accept donations that have the name of a person or your child on them.

Please communicate with us at the following e-mail address if you have any questions or concerns about your giving: victorbarella@conexion.com.gt

Thank you and God bless you,
Victor Barbella
